Cats amaze me. If you have watched one at play their imagination is enormous. They dart around as if playing ball. They toss a toy up in the air and catch it. They seem to create joy out of thin air. And they relax equally as well.
What goes through their mind as they dart away from the toy, then back again to pounce. Are they imagining that it is going to run away. They play or perhaps it is a method of work for them, for long periods of time, followed by a snack. A sip of water then to the sofa for a long nap.
I suppose there is something to be learned from them. Work hard, play hard, nap well. They have tremendous instincts of who will feed them, who will take them in. Who to avoid. Who to trust. I so would like a bit of advice from them on those subjects, particularly the who to trust. How do they know. Really how do they know.
I would also like a lesson or two on how to immerse myself in play as they do without a care of who is looking on or what another cat thinks. What a rich life that would be to know that lesson.
So they intrigue me. Entertain me. And at times I have actually learned from them valuable lessons. Now to learn the one of freedom of play….
